Chin Enhancement

Improve Your Profile with Non-Surgical Chin Enhancement

Your chin is one of your most important facial features. It helps shape your face and neck to give you a strong, chiseled profile. As you age, the chin loses volume and definition. A natural chin treatment using dermal filler injections can restore youthful volume without making your chin look too sharp or unnatural.

A weak to practically non-existent chin detracts from an otherwise attractive face. It can upset its symmetry, and give you a poorly defined profile. If your chin recedes, or “blends in” with your face and neck, appearing almost invisible, an injection with cosmetic fillers can help balance your facial features.

At My Botox LA Med Spa, we offer non-surgical chin enhancement with a few different facial fillers. These solutions are completely safe and natural. A traditional chin implant requires preparation, recovery time and prescriptions for antibiotics and pain medication. Chin injections take 10 to 20 minutes in our offices. You can return to work or other activities after your visit. The non-surgical procedure is painless and without side effects for most patients.

Am I am Good Candidate for Chin Enhancement?

Any patient who wants to improve the shape, volume, and definition of their chin is a good candidate for this procedure. It works for men and women from 18 to 65. Filler injections add volume to the chin and jawline, giving the lower face better projection. As volume is added, skin underneath the chin tightens, eliminating a flabby-looking neckline. This procedure is recommended for individuals with average to moderate chins.

During a consultation with our medical aesthetician, you’ll find out exactly how cosmetic fillers can reshape your chin. Some patients may also need injections in the jawline or elsewhere on the face to improve their profile.

Patients of all ages may have a weak chin or jawline due to hereditary. Older individuals may notice that they lose fat around the mouth and chin in their 30s and 40s. The mandible (jawbone) shrinks as we age, too, making the chin area thinner and less supple.

Chin augmentation creates a more three-dimensional chin shape. It gives patients with micrognathia (small, short chins), longer chins, and a more projected chin for individuals with retrognathia, or receding chins.

A strong, angular chin is considered most attractive for men, while a rounded, well- balanced chin is ideal for women. Regardless of your natural chin shape, our aesthetician can select the best treatment to help you get closer to these ideals.

What Happens During a Non-Invasive Chin Treatment?

Liquid chin augmentation involves injecting dermal filler into the chin to sculpt and define your profile. Our medical aesthetician is skilled in the anatomy of the face, and can help you decide how to use injections to sculpt your improved chin.

Your chin enhancement will be performed after a topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area. (Some injectable solutions already contain Lidocaine, eliminating the need for a separate numbing cream.) The solutions used for this procedure are dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid or hydroxyapatite. Fillers made with HA are softer and more fluid. Other filler solutions are thicker and stiffer, but last longer.

Our medical aesthetician marks the precise injection locations, and a filler is injected deep into skin tissues to add volume and shape the chin. The entire treatment usually takes between 10 and 20 minutes. During your treatment, you can tell the aesthetician if you’d like more (or less) of the solution applied, and monitor the progress by looking in a hand mirror.

The number of injections varies from patient to patient, but most people need between three and six injections. The filler can be molded into the desired shape by the aesthetician after injection.

Unlike a chin implant or surgery, injections can be used to customize your new chin. If you’re not pleased with the way your initial treatment looks, our aesthetician can always change the amount of solution used, or apply the filler at different injection points, when you return for follow-up or maintenance treatments.

A chin augmentation lasts from four months to a year, depending on the injection substance and how your body reacts to it. The filler gradually depletes over several months. This happens naturally due to the character of the material; there’s nothing you can do to make it have more “staying power”.Once the solution wears out, you’ll need to return to our offices for a maintenance procedure.

What Cosmetic Filler Is Best for My Chin?

We use two types of fillers for the chin. One of them is soft and can be reversed if you don’t like it; the other consists of a thicker formula which (rarely) causes lumps and bumps under the skin. (Massaging the lumps can disperse them.) The softer filler lasts four to six months, and the thick formula lasts 9 to 12 months.

Both fillers give you natural looking results. If you’re not sure how you want your chin to look, you may want to try the soft solution. If you know what you want, or have visited us for chin treatments before, the thicker formula may be better. (And it requires fewer maintenance treatments.)

Precautions, Side Effects and Aftercare

You may experience minor swelling, tenderness or bruising in the treatment area for a few hours or a few days. If there’s any temporary discoloration, cover the affected area with makeup.

Most patients resume normal activity right after their treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise for a day or so after your injection, and don’t take aspirin, fish oil, Vitamin E, Motrin or any blood-thinning supplements or medications for a week after treatment. (It’s OK to take Tylenol, though.)

Avoid applying pressure on the treatment area for four hours after your procedure. The filler is moldable, so you’ll need to let it settle. Try not to sleep on your stomach for the first two days after treatment, as the prolonged pressure may cause the filler in your chin to shift. You can resume all normal activity after 48 hours.
