Restylane vs Juvederm: What’s the Difference

Restylane Vs Juvederm

Restylane vs Juvederm
, it’s helpful to know the target areas, side effects, and end results before you decide which is best for you.

Plastic surgery is no longer the only option for facial rejuvenation. Restylane and Juvederm are non-invasive dermal fillers for both men and women that can plump the skin, giving it a supple, youthful appearance.

These hyaluronic acid-based fillers have given many people more confidence without the cost, recovery time, or risk of surgery. To find out more about the difference between Juvederm and Restylane, read on.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers also referred to as wrinkle fillers, are substances that come in gel form that is injected beneath the skin to improve the skin’s appearance. These fillers can:

    • Restore volume that is lost due to age
    • Diminish lines and creases in the skin
  • Enhance the contours and definition of the face
  • Give the skin a youthful appearance

Dermal fillers are far more cost effective than surgery. There’s also no downtime, so those who choose fillers can get back to their lives right away.

Hyaluronic Acid

Many dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid as one of the main ingredients. These fillers are usually in a gel form and are soft.

Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally and is found in the skin and other tissues. It has the unique ability to attract and hold moisture. One molecule of hyaluronic acid can hold up to one thousand times its weight in water, making it a super-hydrating substance.

All of this retained moisture makes the skin in injected areas look hydrated, plump, and younger than it did before treatment.

These fillers give temporary results that typically last around six to twelve months. Since it’s a natural substance, the body eventually absorbs the hyaluronic acid and new filler procedures are needed.

Hyaluronic acid fillers usually contain lidocaine, making this procedure fairly painless. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that minimizes pain and discomfort both during the treatment and after.

Dermal Fillers for the Face

Dermal fillers can be great for a number of issues, including wrinkles, asymmetry, creases, and other noticeable lines. They’re excellent for improving the look of the lips and mouth. Hyaluronic acid fillers can:

  • Reduce the depth of a chin crease
  • Make certain facial features look more symmetrical
  • Smooth and reduce the appearance of vertical lip lines
  • Diminish smile, marionette, and parentheses lines
  • Enhance and plump the lips
  • Fill in hollowed or sunken areas such as those beneath the eyes and in the cheek area

With no more deep or fine lines, lip and cheek thinning, or asymmetry, the overall appearance is improved instantly. Since results are not permanent, there’s virtually no long-term risk in using dermal fillers.

Side Effects

Some people may experience mild side effects after dermal filler procedures.

These can include redness, swelling, or bruising where the injection took place. These effects usually only last around 24 hours and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

Permanent discoloration, hyperpigmentation, and scarring is uncommon. Numbness after a filler procedure usually results from lidocaine in the product used.

Though fillers are generally safe for most people, those with hyaluronic acid or lidocaine sensitivities shouldn’t have these injections.

Dermal fillers may also cause problems for those with inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis. Those with bleeding disorders should also avoid these treatments.

Juvederm vs Restylane: What’s the Difference?

Both Restylane and Juvederm are hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that are used to improve the texture and appearance of facial skin.

However, there are some notable differences between the two.

These main difference between Juvederm and Restylane is how the filler solutions behave in the skin and what areas benefit most from these different fillers.

Restylane For Lips

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid filler that is commonly used for lines under the eyes and for wrinkles on the hands. It’s also great for smoothing lines around the lips and mouth, plumping the lips, and adding volume and lift to cheeks.

Restylane is a good choice for larger areas or areas that need more volume. It tends to stay in place after injection. This allows our medical provider to shape it for better contours and for volume in a particular region of the face.

Juvederm

Duration of Treatment and Results

These injections usually take around 30 minutes to an hour per session, which is pretty typical for all dermal filler sessions. It may take a few days for you to see the full results after the filler procedure. Some people see results right away.

Results are temporary but still last quite a while. Restylane fillers last from six to eighteen months.

Juvederm

Like Restylane, Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler used to enhance facial features and reduce the physical signs of aging. It is preferred for large areas that need smoothing.

Juvederm is referred to as a “smooth” dermal filler. Unlike Restylane, it doesn’t stay in one place or leave bumps. Instead, it spreads and travels after the injection. This makes Juvederm ideal for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, but less appropriate for filling in sunken or hollow areas.

Duration of Treatment and Results

Juvederm treatment sessions take between 30 and sixty minutes, depending on the size of the area that needs to be treated. Most of the time Juvederm will require more than one injection for each area that needs treatment.

Results from Juvederm injections can usually be seen instantly. These treatments typically last 6 months to 1 year.

Lip Treatments: Restylane Silk vs Juvederm

Both Restylane and Juvederm can be used for lips. Restylane Silk and Restylane Refyne are used to treat lips and promises a silky, smooth, and natural lip appearance. It is used for augmentation and for smoothing vertical lip lines.

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, Juvederm Vollure XC and Juvederm Volbella are also used to smooth vertical lip lines and add natural volume to the lips.

Dermal Fillers for a Youthful Appearance

Dermal fillers are a great way to improve the look of your skin and lips without invasive surgery. When it comes to Restylane vs Juvederm, the right treatment for you depends on your specific needs and desired results.
