6 Things You Should Know Before Getting a Belotero Treatment

If you’ve been thinking about receiving a dermal filler treatment, here are six things to know about the Belotero filler and if it’s right for you.

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery in the U.S. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons states that 2.7 million people received soft tissue fillers in 2017, a 3% increase compared to 2016.

These soft tissue or dermal fillers are most commonly used to fill in lines from wrinkles, make lips fuller, and add volume to the face to counteract sagging and other signs of aging. There are several types of branded dermal fillers available, including Belotero, which was approved by the FDA in 2011.

1. It’s Made From a Natural Substance

Belotero is comprised of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body. This means patients’ bodies are least likely to reject it and it also conforms very easily to the facial structure to help soften wrinkles. Once it’s injected under the dermis, it binds with your skin’s water content.

There are many hyaluronic acid fillers available today, but many clients prefer Beloero over other brand names because it tends to create a very smooth and even texture. It is also the thinnest filler currently available.

2. It Can Treat Many Areas of the Face

From the lines that form on your forehead to those on your chin, Belotero can be used to address all of these and pretty much every part of your face in between. It can be injected into your “smile lines” around your mouth, used to help erase vertical lip lines for smoother, fuller lips, under eyes and crow’s feet around the eyes.

3. It’s Practically Painless

If the idea of having a needle inserted into your skin in the name of beauty makes you cringe, have no fear because the Belotero procedure itself is relatively painless.

The needle itself is also very fine, which helps eliminate any discomfort.

There’s also no downtime involved with Belotero treatments. There’s no surgery or anesthesia involved, and patients can return to their regular activities including exercise immediately following a treatment.

You may experience some minor side effects such as soreness, redness, swelling, or bruising. These are usually not problematic and resolve on their own in a few days.

4. It’s Fast

Most Belotero treatments take less than an hour, which makes them ideal for lunch hour during the work week. As a non-invasive cosmetic treatment, there’s no prep or downtime involved.

Most treatments last 45 minutes from start to finish. Keep in mind that the possibility of bruising is always there so plan your treatment 1-2 weeks prior to a big event.

5. Results Are Natural and Fairly Long Lasting

You can expect your Belotero treatment to last for several months following an injection. Although results vary by individual, most patients experience them for about six months. Areas of the face that experience a lot of movement may require more Belotero treatments.

By contrast, Botox treatments in general last about three or four months. Dermal fillers tend to stay in place longer and they usually provide more noticeable results than chemical peels and other treatments that target the surface of the skin.

No one will ever be able to tell you had a cosmetic procedure done, other than noticing your younger appearance. Belotero is very seamless and natural looking.

You can also receive Belotero as a preventative measure against early lines and wrinkles.

6. It’s Suitable for All Patients

Pretty much anyone concerned about fine lines and skin folds may qualify to receive Belotero treatments. Most patients are at least 21 years old. Belotero is also suitable for men as well.

If you are pregnant or nursing, you may want to consult your primary care physician just to make sure you’re cleared to receive Belotero. You may also want to delay a Belotero treatment if you have a dental appointment coming up. The procedure itself could stretch areas of your face and cause fillers to move around.

If you have a sinus infection, it’s also best to wait until it’s cleared up before receiving an injection. Although rare, an infection affecting one area of the face could potentially spread to the injection site.
